Improve Page-wise SEO in Joomla

Improving for Search Engine Optimization means that links of your website are indexed properly with no errors in mobile-friendly, rich results and AMP (Accelerated Mobile Pages) tests.

First, you need to integrate Joomla! and Google Search Console. After that you can inspect, index and improve your search engine rankings for individual pages.

Step 1: Site Url

At one time, you can work on one website. You need to save the site url in the configuration (even if you have one website in GSC).

From the dashboard, visit Search Console section, Here you will see all your Google Search Console properties. Copy the Site Url for the website you want to work on. Then, visit component options. Under the Google tab, paste this site url.

Step 2: Links

Links are individual pages to inspect and improve SEO. There are four ways to get links:

  1. Manually: Click on "New" button from the toolbar and enter the url on the title field. Save.
  2. CSV File: You can use import tool to add links from CSV file.
  3. Google Search Console: You get get links from search console that are already getting impressions and are indexed. This is explained in the next step. It is recommended way for established websites.
  4. Joomla Articles: You can generate links from published Joomla articles. This is explained in the next step. It is recommended way for new websites.

Step 3A: Get Links from GSC

You can get the links in batches. From the component options, under the Links tab:

Row Limit: Number of links to get at one time (Keep it below 50).

Start Row: You can start from zero, and then increment it. For example, if your row limit is 10, first time start row will be 0, second time, 10, third time 20 and so on till you get all the links.

Save the configuration. Click on the "Get Links" button with Google Icon at the toolbar. You will see the links imported from Google. These links are already indexed.

You can also change the duration (start date and end date) to get links accordingly.

Step 3B: Get Links from Joomla Articles

You can get the links in batches. From the component options, under the Links tab:

Row Limit: Number of links to get at one time.

Start Row: This is the ID of Joomla article. You can start from 1 and then increment it. For example, if your row limit is 10, first time start row will be 1, second time, 11, third time 21 and so on till you get all the links.

Save the configuration. Click on the "Get Links" button with Joomla Icon at the toolbar. You will see the links imported. The index status of these links is unknown.

Step 4: Inspect Url

After getting links, the next step is to inspect them using Google inspection tool.

For each link, you can inspect by clicking "Inspect" button. This will update the link with the inspection result. The inspection result consists of four reports or parts:

  1. Index
  2. Mobile-friendly
  3. Amp
  4. Rich Results

After inspection, if you see any part as invalid, click on the title to see the inspection results in detail. Solve the issues, test the link and update the Request Type to Index.

Step 5: Index Url

After you have solved the issues or in case the link is not indexed, you need to submit the link for indexing.

You can submit the link to Google by clicking "Index" button. After submission, the index submit date will be updated.

After few days, you can inspect the Url again to see if the issues are solved.

Step 6: Task Scheduler Plugin

You can automate step 4 (Url inspection) and step 5 (Url indexing) using task scheduler plugin.
